Today, on November 20, it will be 11 years without Sokol Olldashin. The man and the politician that everyone loved, and that with his departure left behind a lot of pain and a big void in Albanian politics.

Olldashi passed away in a tragic accident while traveling from Elbasan to Tirana on the evening of November 20, 2013. The pain of his passing is great for his family members, just like the first day.

Sokol Olldashi has stood out as one of the most distinguished figures of the Democratic Party. He was one of the students of the events of December 1990 and four times a deputy in the Parliament of Albania.

His career as a journalist and editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Albania”, while in 2001 he was elected for the first time as a deputy in the Parliament of Albania.

Four years later, Olldashi was re-elected to the Assembly, with the victory in Shijak. After winning the second term of parliament, he was appointed head of the Ministry of the Interior, a position he held from 2005 to the beginning of 2007.

At this time, he ran for mayor of Tirana, a race that he lost to Edi Rama. Then, Sokol Olldashi held the position of the Minister of Transport and Public Works until September 2013. After the defeat of the Democratic Party on June 23 and the resignation of Sali Berisha, Olldashi ran for the post of DP chairman, opposite Lulzim Basha.

On a personal note, he was married to Enkeleda Olldashi and they have two sons, Glaucus and Kleitin. Recently, the eldest son Glauku has started to become active with the Democratic Party, participating in various protests, deciding to follow his father’s path.
