The Special Court of Appeal has postponed to January 24 the review of Alfred Beleri’s appeal against the decision that refused him special permission to be sworn in as mayor.
We remind you that the request of the elected mayor to take the oath has turned into a judicial ordeal.
After the rejection of the request by the Directorate of Prisons, the court of Durrës forwarded the case for interpretation to the High Court, which stated that the competence to decide belonged to the Special Court.
The Special Court dismissed his request, while today the Appeal has postponed it to January 24.
Beleri was arrested two days before the May 14 elections under suspicion of vote-buying, and since then he is in custody, while the investigations have been closed and the process against him has started under the charge of “active corruption in the elections”.
He managed to be declared the winner, but was unable to take the oath, the act which would make him official as the head of the municipality.
