The Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana has issued a statement regarding the progress of the investigation into the incident of January 21, 2011, where citizens Ziver Veizi, Faik Myrtaj, Hekuran Deda and Aleks Nika were killed during a protest called by the SP.
The prosecution informs that the investigations so far have not been able to find out who are the people who killed the citizens Aleks Nika and Hekuran Deda. Due to the fact that the journalist Artan Hoxha has not accepted to hand over to the prosecutor’s office the new facts that he claims to have connected with the murder of Aleks Nika, but only to the SPAK, the prosecutor’s office requested help from a foreign authority.
“In the function of the investigations carried out by the prosecutor, it has been decided to evaluate and examine the evidence seized during the investigation of the scene and the investigation of the victim, addressing the competent foreign authorities, of which due to the sensitivity and nature of the case confidentiality is requested. Remembering the respect of the guarantees of a process that is under investigation, we inform you that during the investigations that will be carried out, the acts of the European Court for Human Rights, which are related to this criminal proceeding, will be taken into account,” it is already stated others in the statement of the Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana.
On February 27, the Supreme Court will decide who should investigate the file of January 21, SPAK or the Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana. The Supreme Court will consider the request of the family members of Aleks Nika, his wife, who was killed in the protest of January 21, 2011.
