Democratic deputy Agron Gjekmarkaj calls the exclusion of 19 of his opposition colleagues from the assembly for several days an unusual decision.

He says that this shows that the government has “lost its nerves”, as this is a hasty and improper decision.

“It is unusual to expel 19 deputies at once, who have not done anything illegal…a tragicomic situation that shows that in some way the government and the prime minister are losing their nerve a little. To go towards such a punishment is inappropriate”, he said.

Gjekmarkaj says that he cannot say that he does not agree with blocking the pulpit and work in the Assembly, but adds that he thinks that the opposition should find instruments of communication in the Assembly.

“To find ways to restore the word as a communication instrument. The cause is right, the protest of colleagues is right and I continue to support it. We are not here to be a sidekick to the government, to wink at it, to throw water on it every time the ‘flames’ of protests are ignited. Without turning into a ‘fake’ opposition, we can find opportunities to turn these topics into discourse and debate,” he said.
