The Socialist Party held the meeting of the National Assembly “online” yesterday, while Prime Minister Edi Rama requested a real registration of party members. After this moment, Rama announced elections within the party.
According to him, the time has come for elections to be held to reorganize the party.
“Problems have been found in the composition of the organizations and the party register. There is a need to achieve gender balance in the co-management of Party organizations. A real census of active members is needed. Only the inactive part should be separated. We want a minimum of 4 new members in each organization. I want organization-by-organization documentation from every political leader. I want report and pictures. After that, we hold elections March 15-April 15. Renewal of every cell of the party is needed”, Rama is said to have said.
He asked the leaders of the districts to document the work being done by each organization as well as the renewal of each cell, while on March 15-April 15 the elections for the heads of branches will be held.
“The assembly and district leaders should work to increase each organization by 4 members. Work as if March 15 was a general election. The structures should be there for the people, inventory for every family, the problems they have”, Rama is said to have told the leaders.
The Assembly of the SP will meet again on March 16 in a meeting in the city of Durrës. The last meeting of the members of the Assembly was on February 11, where an analysis of the socialist structures in the districts was made. While the focus was also on the preparations for the 2025 parliamentary elections. After the meeting, the leader of the SP, the leader of the majority, told reporters that the purpose of this meeting was to continue with new commitments, including gender balance in those organizations where there are problems .
“It went much better than some of the colleagues thought and expressed. We are in the second phase, which is the phase of engagement for new memberships, and for addressing the gender balance, in several organizations in each district”, Rama emphasized. Asked by journalists if there will be changes in the party, Rama emphasized that the SP is here today because it changes itself from time to time. “Changes are part of SP’s life, that’s why SP is the winning party because they changed themselves. I see a positive commitment even from today’s reports, it is clear that the commitment is positive. Plus, our system is a system that has mirrors that speak for themselves and it’s not what one or the other reports,” said Rama.
