Joe Biden has insisted that only “God Almighty” can convince him to leave the US presidential race.

In an interview free of major gaffes but unlikely to escape his critics, Biden was asked by ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos how he would feel if he lost to Donald Trump.

“I’ll feel as long as I’ve given it my all and done the best job I know I can, that’s what it’s all about,” the president replied.

In other responses that his opponents may see as arrogant, the 81-year-old claimed that he is “running the world” and no one is “more qualified” to be president.

Friday’s interview came after a barrage of criticism as the 81-year-old tries to salvage his endangered re-election campaign after a disastrous debate performance last month. Four members of Congress have called on Biden to step down, and it was reported that Mark Warner, who chairs the Senate intelligence committee, is looking to rally a group of Democratic senators to ask the president to drop out.

“Look. I mean, if God Almighty came down and said, ‘J, get out of the race,’ I’d get out of the race,” he said, his voice straining after the rally. “God Almighty does not come down.”

Biden insisted that after meeting with Democratic leaders such as Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi and state governors, they continue to support him.
