The traditional annual interview of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in front of dozens of journalists after the opening of the 88th Thessaloniki International Fair and his speech on the government’s vision until 2027, produced two more news for Albania.

After 19 years of planning and requests from local authorities, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure have finally approved the start of works on the Janina-Kakavije road axis, so important for the movement of thousands of vehicles every day towards the two countries.

But the question that was addressed to the Greek Prime Minister about what his relations are now with Edi Rama, after the imprisonment but also the release of Fredi Beleri and the statement of the Albanian Prime Minister that “Albania’s relations with Greece are strategic”, was also interesting.

For his part, Kyriakos Mitsotakis answered:

“We want the best possible relations with all our neighbors, including Albania. We went through a difficult period and I don’t want to talk in detail about the Fredi Beleri case.

I want to express my satisfaction that he was with us at the International Fair and that this completely unfair and unnecessary adventure he went through is finally over.

Let me say once again that the relations, looking at the broad picture, that is, the relations between Greece and Albania, which we want to be very good, go beyond respecting the rights of the Greek national minority of Albania.

The issue of property rights has never left our agenda. It is coming back, and what we will do is to ensure, with the help of Fredi Beler in the European Parliament, that the property rights of our compatriots in Albania are fully respected.

And I would say that this is a necessary condition for Albania to continue walking on its European path”, he said.
