The police escorted the protester Dilaver Nela to the police station, who on Tuesday morning attacked the MEP Fredi Beleri, while the latter was leaving the Presidency of the Assembly.
The event happened after the meeting of Eurodeputies, when Beler was hit with eggs and yogurt by a citizen. Footage of the incident, captured in front of the Parliament building, shows the protester approaching Beler with a bag in one hand and a bottle of yogurt in the other.
This incident has caused numerous reactions, while the authorities are continuing investigations to clarify the circumstances of the event.
This Wednesday, in connection with the case, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reacted, which asked the Albanian authorities to take measures for the security of the MEPs.
“We condemn the swearing and insults towards the Greek MEP Fredi Beleri during the visit to Tirana of the delegation of the European Parliament, to control the process of Albania’s membership. The Albanian authorities must take the appropriate measures to guarantee the safety of MEPs and the freedom to do their work without obstacles. MEPs represent the interests of the citizens of the European Union and should enjoy due respect”, says the reaction of the Foreign Ministry of Greece.
