Italian citizen Simone Del Vecchio has been in the hospital for 8 months, after removing 20 teeth at once in a clinic in Tirana.
The story of the 37-year-old from Puglia was told to Corriere della Sera by his twin brother, Marco.
It all started last March 13, when Simone, attracted by an advertisement that promised excellent results at competitive prices, decided to go to Tirana to install dental prostheses.
However, shortly after the operation, Simone Del Vecchio felt ill and suffered four cardiac arrests.
He was first admitted to intensive therapy in Tirana and then moved to Italy.
The 37-year-old is currently still hospitalized in a clinic in San Giovanni Rotondo and in the last few days he will have to undergo a new operation for a tracheal stenosis.
Simone Del Vecchio’s family has started legal actions, “but we have many problems related to the fact that it is a country that is not part of the European Union and the difficulties in finding intervention documents”, explains his brother Marku.
That day, the mother was also present at the Tirana clinic, who had undergone the same operation two years before, without any problems.
“He spent eight days in intensive therapy in Tirana and on March 21st we took him by ambulance to the Polyclinic of Bari for resuscitation”, explains his brother.
After coming out of the coma, a new complication occurred in June.
“He was transferred to the infectious diseases department because of a contagious bacterial infection, Candida auris, which further delayed his recovery because he was unable to rehabilitate.”
And now, after being moved to San Giovanni Rotondo, he is awaiting a new operation to reduce the risk of suffocation due to tracheal stenosis (probably due to the long period of intubation) that does not allow him to drink , eat and breathe well.
