The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has been released from house arrest.
The Special Court (GJKKO) has today issued a decision to revoke the security measure “house arrest” for former Prime Minister Berisha.
By decision of the trial panel, there is no other security measure against Sali Berisha.
“Today the court revoked the house arrest measure. As of today, Sali Berisha is free. There is no other security measure against him,” said lawyer Genc Gjokutaj.
“The prosecutor requested that the “house arrest” measure be left in force,” added the legal representative of the leader of the DP.
The decision to establish that Sali Berisha was released was taken by the GJKKO on December 30, 2023 at the request of the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) after the former Prime Minister refused to implement the “compulsory appearance” measure against him, considering it unconstitutional.
“Replacement of personal security measures with a coercive character “obligation to report to the judicial police” provided for by article 234 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and “Prohibition on leaving the country” provided for by article 233 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, determined by decision No. 112, dated 20.10.2023, verified by decision no. 117 dated 26.10.2023, of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, left in force by decision no. 56 dated 21.11.2023, of the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, with the measure of personal security “house arrest”, provided for by article 237 of the Criminal Procedure Code, against the citizen under investigation Sali Berisha, son of Ram and Shiqere, born on 15.10.1944, born in Tropoja, with personal number E40701031R, suspected of committing the criminal offense “Passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials”, committed in collaboration, provided for by article 260 and 25 of the Criminal Code”,
