Today is November 28, Albanian Independence Day. 112 years ago, in 1912, the Independence of Albania was proclaimed in Vlora with a Declaration stating that Albania was declaring its independence from the Ottoman Empire.
Albania declared itself independent in Vlora on November 28, 1912 by Ismail Qemali. 83 delegates from all Albanian territories participated in the declaration of independence. Immediately after the declaration of independence, the Vlora Assembly formed the first government of Independent Albania led by Ismail Qemali and the Eldership.
International recognition of independence and the determination of Albania’s borders took place a year later at the Conference of Ambassadors in London, whose decision was to proclaim the Sovereign Principality of Albania from the Ottoman Empire under the supervision of the International Control Commission and to leave half of the territories of the newly formed state outside its administrative borders.
The Act of November 28, 1912 affirmed the inalienable right of the Albanian nation to be one and united in its natural lands, a right that is protected to this day by the Constitution of the Republic of Albania.
The atmosphere in Tirana is festive since early in the morning the center is decorated with decorations in red and black colors, as well as all the main streets with Albanian flags, with the double-headed eagle. It is expected that there will be concerts during the day, an atmosphere that will continue during dinner. Albania will have a party tomorrow as well.
