Elena Kocaqi, the leader of the Albanian National Alliance, invited to Report TV, stated that she would not be included in the lists of Sali Berisha or Adriatik Lapaj’s party for the 2025 parliamentary elections.
In the show ‘Frontline; with journalist Marsela Karapanço, Kocaqi underlined that her party, created only a few months ago, aims to consolidate itself as an independent entity and offer a new political alternative in the current market.
Kocaqi emphasized that, although public agreements for alliances may be considered after January, currently there is no cooperation. Referring to the electoral system that does not allow pre-election coalitions, she stated that this situation makes it more difficult for small parties to unite.
We have many parties that want to have agreements, at least the small parties. We are a party that was created 2-3 months ago and we have sought to consolidate ourselves. If we talk about alliances, this will be with a public agreement, maybe from January onwards. There are preliminary discussions. We are a party that has emerged, because we felt that a political offer is missing in the political market.
Would you join Berisha’s lists? No, I’m sorry, I won’t. I am a separate party, they join because pre-election coalitions are not allowed. I don’t join any list, because I have my own party. I won’t join without an agreement. We have no agreement. Lapaj’s party is a separate party, our party has a different identity. There is a lot of talk about unification, it is very difficult. With a coalition and an open list it was easier, they have deliberately done this thing that does not allow coalitions.
As for Berisha, Kocaqi emphasizes that he is fighting to maintain the role of opposition leader.
