The case of Democratic leader Sali Berisha has also been mentioned in the Committee on Good Governance in the United States Congress.
Investigative journalist Tyler O’Niel has testified in Congress that the Open Society Foundations and USAID supported an institute that implemented changes in the justice system in Albania.
He also says that these changes allegedly led to the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha in order to silence him.
“The Open Society Foundations and USAID have also collaborated in supporting the East West Management Institute, which received $31.2 million from USAID during the last fiscal year that ended on September 30. This institute initiated changes in the judiciary in Albania, which critics claim led to the criminal prosecution of Albanian opposition leader Sali Berisha, silencing an opponent of the country’s socialist prime minister,” he told Congress.
We recall that Berisha claims that his declaration of ‘non grata’ and the investigation by SPAK were carried out in full cooperation between Prime Minister Edi Rama and billionaire George Soros.
