Former Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj has been in the spotlight in recent days, rumored to be the person behind the SPAK hack.
The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, said a few days ago that the SPAK hack was a result of the internal war in the SP and that the next to be made a “scapegoat” according to him is Fatmir Xhafaj.
Regarding these allusions and the rumors circulating that Fatmir Xhafaj’s office was searched and documents and a laptop were seized to prove his connection to the cyberattack, the former minister made a long reaction on social networks, denying everything.
Fatmir Xhafaj called everything a lie and added that he will continue the battle for May 11 unwaveringly.
Fatmir Xhafaj’s reaction:
I have recently followed a series of media reports, full of untruths, insinuations and allusions from the mouths of depraved and loose tongues of politicians or pseudo-analysts, whose sole purpose is to tarnish my image. It clearly resembles an orchestrated campaign of attacks, just as they have done before.
While highly valuing freedom of expression and the right of the media to do its job, to inform the public and to guarantee transparency, and having always demonstrated maximum respect for media people, such attacks by some intriguers cannot force me to remain silent or to interrupt my work in the service of citizens, in defense of the law and the public interest. They can even less deter me from the challenge of May 11 for a new contract of trust with the citizens of Tirana, to continue to be their representative in the Albanian Parliament and to advance my public commitments to my constituents.
Such attacks are nothing but a reflection of the weakness of those who cook them, the unknowing and unbelieving cooks of the old and rotten soup that is served to the public through channels and portals. The media that distribute these fabrications are an example of broken mirrors that distort and distort reality for occult interests.
NOTHING IS TRUE of what has been said recently about my person, about the alleged control of the office, the seizure of laptops and documents or the monstrous insinuations regarding the illegal interference in the e-mail of SPAK prosecutors. All of this is a bag of lies, base fabrications cooked up for malicious motives, by morally unscrupulous people! I reject them with contempt and disgust. I am sure that at the appropriate moment they will face the force of truth and law like those who have incited them and those who have undertaken to be used in this dirty campaign of slander and public intrigue.
I stand firm and courageously in front of them because I fight for what is right and true. My voters, the socialists at heart, know me well, which is why they have chosen me and will vote for me again on May 11, precisely for the meaningful reason that I am not one of those politicians and officials who have built their careers by trampling on every human and ethical standard, by misusing the media as cannon fodder to hit political opponents or even competitors under the belt or by misusing functions in politics, justice and elsewhere in state institutions. NEVER in this long political career, in any case have I insulted or violated anyone’s personal or family integrity, even my political opponents.
This is not the first time for me to face these attacks. This time, as always, anyone who tries to smear me will not succeed because the truth is stronger than any unjust force they may try to use. Every slander, every lie, every misinformation or every false accusation is a weak tool that proves the quagmire into which a group of people have fallen, mentally, politically and morally frustrated individuals, who serve nothing but the truth and the public interest.
I am very proud of my contribution to politics, to the Socialist Party, to the government and the legislature, and especially to important and vital processes for the country, such as the Justice Reform or the one we recently undertook with the Special Commission on Good Governance, Anti-Corruption and the Rule of Law. I will continue to do my work with humility and dedication in the service of the citizens and the Socialist Party to guarantee victory in the May 11 elections and to make Albania’s journey to the European Union irreversible once and for all.
