Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku has launched a campaign to win another mandate in the Albanian Parliament.

Positioned on the open list of Tirana, Tabaku has expressed to citizens that she represents conservative principles, saying that she is “for the traditional family”.

The MP’s statements have brought the reaction of Xheni Karaj, activist and leader of the LGBT Alliance, who says she feels disappointed with Tabaku because she has embraced a “fake” rhetoric for the campaign.

Karaj declares that she could have voted for the MP, but her rhetoric about “a handful of votes” has made her change her mind.

Activist’s post:

“Today I was telling a journalist friend of mine that, if I were to vote for a Democratic Party politician, it would be Jorida Tabaku. As a child raised in the premises of the DP headquarters, I have always seen Jorida as one of the smartest and most prepared Tirana women that this party has had. As a Tirana, Jorida must promote the values that make Tirana proud, where the most important is hospitality and acceptance of diversity.

I know that Jorida is not homophobic. But I cannot help but feel a deep disappointment when I see that, like many of her colleagues, she has chosen to play the fake and burnt conservatism card, simply for a handful of votes.

She says in the interview that conservative principles have been the basis of the DP, and that “family has always been money”.

How principled has this party been, my Jorida, when there is no principled conservative left in the DP without stabbing each other in the back?

I didn’t think I would have to point this out, since you felt it yourself”, writes Karaj.
