In an interview on the show “Log.” Lulzim Basha, former leader of the Democratic Party, commented on the opposition split and, according to him, the influence of Prime Minister Edi Rama in this process.
Responding to Rama’s accusations about his political “sleep,” Basha said that he “makes you sleep soundly,” while suggesting that Rama, on the contrary, finds no peace because of his affairs.
“One of the reasons why Rama cannot sleep is his involvement in the corruption of one of the highest security figures in the US,” Basha said, implying the influence that, according to him, Rama has exerted on Charles McGonigal.
Analyst Lorenc Vangjeli challenged Basha by asking why he withdrew from the political scene after 2021, leaving the “field of action” to former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, whom he called Basha’s “political father.”
Basha responded that the opposition should have moved forward, without getting entangled in internal conflicts and dealing with personal causes, as Rama wanted.
“Rama invested everything to divide the opposition and succeeded by focusing the battle on Berisha,” Basha emphasized, underlining that the division was part of a well-thought-out strategy by the head of government, in collaboration with oligarchs and criminal groups.
This “personal cause,” according to Basha, has had serious consequences for the unity of the opposition, leaving traces of Rama’s influence in the disruption of the political unity of the Democrats.
Excerpt from the discussion:
Basha: Since Rama accuses me of sleeping, I make sure I sleep well. One of the reasons why Rama cannot sleep is the corruption that has made him one of the highest security leaders in the US.
Lorenc Vangjeli: Since you mentioned sleep, why did it seem like you dozed off after September 2021 when you made a political act and left the field of action to your political father, whose turn it was for you to kill?
Basha: We have exhausted this, but the focus of the opposition and the DP, in my opinion then and today, should have been moving forward and not getting stuck in the internal war as Rama wanted. Rama’s investment succeeded in Berisha. This is the only investment Rama has made in these years.
His investment is Mr. Berisha. He should not harm us with a personal cause, as was Mr. Berisha’s. This battle to divide the opposition has the fingerprints of Edi Rama, the oligarchs and criminal groups that he put at his disposal to divide the opposition.
