The head of the government, Edi Rama, announced today the creation of a new ministry that will be headed by Blendi Gonxhja.
The new ministry will include the branch of Economy, which is currently subordinate to the Ministry of Finance and which is headed by Ervin Mete. With this move, Ervin Mete will only be left with the Ministry of Finance. Likewise, in this new ministry, Culture will be merged, which means the departure of Elva Margariti in the ministry she currently leads.
Meanwhile, Innovation will be part of the new ministry.
“It is necessary to move today to an integrated governmental approach in relation to the sectors of Economy, Culture and Innovation, which for the new phase of development we have just entered, must leave the narrow traditional borders of the country’s government and interact closely with each other, especially in the conditions when digital technology has entered as a new force of time in all areas of life and requires strategic direction, governing orientation and cross-sectoral coordination; when culture can no longer remain a small island separated from the new economic and social dynamics of the country, on which it has a great influencing potential, and from which it can benefit much more; when the sector of the economy as a whole requires a new dimension in the governance front.
For this strategic need of this new phase of development, I have decided to change the structure of the government and create a new Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation, which will unite into one the parts that currently function separately in the ministries respective Finance and Economy and Culture.
For the direction of this new ministry, I will propose today to the President of the Republic, Mr. Blendi Gonxhja, a public leader who has stood out for the impressive reformation and modernization of the institution, the constant orientation towards innovation in order to increase the quality of service for citizens, the speed of integration of the relevant sub-sector in the framework of European standards”, Rama announced today.
