Salianj’s letter:
Edi Rama continues to consider my imprisonment as an achievement of his government and does not miss any opportunity to prove that he is the prosecutor and the judge of the decision.
As the polls are revealing the truth of his governing balance, when discontent is growing and there is a mass awakening of the people, when the pensioners are not toys in his hands and when he sees that he cannot throw them away with tired jokes, in these conditions of political decline and the bad fall of glory, I am using my imprisonment as a boast, as an excuse.
He did this last time, on Thursday, even though everyone knows that I am here today because of a political revenge and persecution, because I denounced an international drug trafficker and interrupted his brother’s career, which was meant to be no less that the Minister of the Interior of the only narco-state in Europe, with Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Here in the cells of Fier, we have the right to be informed through television. And we were waiting for the plan to reward pensioners. Vain hope. Priority, Salianj’s sentence.
Although hindered, violently deprived of freedom and basic rights, this does not reduce my attention to a fundamental issue of our society, which is the third age.
I had and still have a chemistry with them, a natural contact, mutual trust, since the first day of political activism. I am convinced that we have no future as a country, as generations, without resolving the great debt towards this layer left on the sidelines, completely neglected, without even the slightest fault of theirs.
I am writing a letter today, to one of them, each one’s parent, grandparent. You who have worked for 40 years, and today receive an average pension of 160 euros, do you know that in the entire Balkans this year the increase was between 40 and 50 euros per month.
Even Kosovo increased it by 20 percent. Only Edi Rama was ridiculed with 4.1 percent. Do you think you deserve this Prime Minister?
The one who buys less meat, gets the oranges and apples with seeds, who shares a corner of the cheap cheese, after 40 years or more of contributions, does he deserve more, or are the Prime Minister’s jokes and pins enough.
You who help your children to work, taking care of your grandchildren, taking them to and from school, keeping them for hours every day, do you think you are still contributing to this country and society, and it is too much to listen to the Prime Minister at the end of the day when he says that you have become too much and the scheme cannot support you.
Do you think you have been patient enough to calculate every day whether you should take that morning coffee with water or water. Do you think that it is not up to you to buy the blood pressure or rheumatism medicine at full price, only that the government has the right to remove that medicine from the reimbursement list.
How do you feel when you see buses with pensioners from every corner of Europe who roam around the world and come to Tirana, and you haven’t gone for a weekend somewhere for years. Believes that a fund enough to buy half a turkey at the end of the year fixes everything.
It makes you forget the last time you went to a restaurant, or when you bought a nice coat, warm shoes, and a new suit. It seems right to have this pension when millions of euros are stolen from roads, tunnels, incinerators, agriculture, health and wherever the government makes a tender, procedure or contract.
And the same prime minister comes out and tells them that he is not to blame but the private enterprises. Because medemek they don’t pay their dues enough. Will you accept to be mocked again by Edi Rama? You understand that he is remembering to talk about you these days, he only talks, because the elections are coming.
You know you are not alone. There are 700 thousand like you. And you realize that you can give back to Edi Ramēs all the jokes, tactless humor, pins and ironies, in just 5 minutes.
He considers you only a vote, separates you from every human element and all that is possible sacrifice and daily suffering.
You know that. And since he only sees you thus, then behave that day, in May that is coming, as a vote, as he counts you. But in the direction that he does not mind. And you have to do the missing justice. You have to do what we as a society owe to you.
And be sure that after this lecture, no one will dare to make jokes and humor with your pension.
