The farmers of Fier and Mallakastra have come out in a protest regarding the price of milk. They say that the price offered by the collectors does not cover their expenses and is driving them towards bankruptcy.
Last year, according to farmers, the milk of small cattle was collected at 170 Lek per kilogram, while the price offered this year is 120 Lek per kilogram. Faced with this situation, farmers say they are in a difficult situation. Either the state should intervene to establish some protective measures or farmers should be supported with subsidies.
Livestock is one of the main pillars of agriculture, and the lack of support for this sector would lead to a further decrease in the number of cattle in the country, thus increasing the price.
According to the farmers, the main causes for this situation is the inattention to this situation according to the farmers is the inattention to this layer.
If the situation continues, they say, they will abandon the cattle and leave the country. In a symbolic way, they also blocked the traffic of vehicles for several minutes.
