The deputy of the Democratic Party and the deputy speaker of the Assembly, Agron Gjekmarkaj, in an interview for “Panorama TV”, spoke about the merger of the Democratic Party. According to him, the union was a necessity for an opportunity to open this political force.
According to him, the meeting the day before at the headquarters of the Democratic Party was rather a symbolic one, while he emphasized that the DP should not repeat this 2-year history, but should learn more from it to be at the level of properly.
“It is a complex situation and what I came to the internal conclusion is that PD should not repeat this 2-year history, but should learn more from it to be at its height. The comeback certainly had some excitement.
The meeting was a routine meeting, but more important than the meeting was the symbolism of the return to the PD headquarters.
By putting an end to a conflict that has harmed us, relativized, not only us, but as a whole has removed some safety valves from society.
At the moment when the united DP begins to recover, I think it returns to its mission for what has worked so far, as Albania’s asset”, said Gjekmarkaj.
Gjekmarkaj said that for a long time they have been asking for the PD to unite by changing the leadership, beyond Basha and Berisha, but they did not succeed. He said that the political reality must be accepted, while emphasizing that the union was made “to make a dignified confrontation with a government that violates the opposition in parliament and outside it”.
“I like to speak openly everywhere. We have asked that DP unite by demanding a change of leadership. We have been looking for a solution that exceeds Berisha, rather than Lulzim Basha.
We did not succeed because most of the democrats for their emotional reasons have decided to support Mr. Berisha. They recognized him to be a factor of the opposition after all the debate and opposition in DP and around it. At this moment, being a year before the elections, when you see that the majority has made its choice, it is time to accept the political reality, preserving some of your consequences and joining the opposition causes to make a dignified confrontation with a government that abuses the opposition in parliament and outside it.
Sensing this danger, the DP joined each one released something from his attitude to stand up for something that is more than the individual, but more than the DP itself, something that interests Albania.
