2.4 million people live in Albania. These are the data made public today by the head of the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), Elsa Dhuli.
Specifically, Dhuli said that “this census estimated in the Albanian territory on September 18, 2023, 2 402 113 inhabitants, who make up 755 950 families, with an average size of 3.2 members per family, who live in 1 082 529 ordinary dwellings” .
“The Population and Housing Census is a snapshot referring to the midnight of September 17-18, 2023 organized by INSTAT. During the last three decades, significant changes have occurred in the demography of Albania, distinct from each other, and the latter accompanied by developments in the socio-economic spheres.
The censuses have provided valuable data to inform policy-making and to design national strategies, to guide development on education, employment, disability, housing conditions, ethno-cultural characteristics and to help understand changing needs. our population.
This activity provides essential information for measuring the objectives of sustainable development, to integrate them through official statistics as a necessity and a common language for measuring the progress of each country, in the big European family.
Conducting the census fulfilled one of the conditions for the opening of negotiations, the results will be used to ensure that the statistics become part of the European statistical plan in the future.

Compared to the 2011 census, where 2,821,977 Albanians lived in Albania, today there are 409,000 fewer inhabitants.
