The much-wanted Albanian justice, Durim Bami, has been released from prison in Dubai.
The 60-day period of detention in Dubai for Nikla’s fort ended yesterday (August 13).
And according to the law of the United Emirates, Durim Bami has been released due to the expiration of the detention period.
Albania does not have an extradition agreement with Dubai, so all persons arrested there who are wanted by Albanian justice are released as soon as their detention ends.
On July 1, the Ministry of Justice officially launched the request for the extradition of citizen Durim Bami to the authorities of the United Arab Emirates.
This request was sent in writing and electronically. The Ministry of Justice has received notification from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the request and the file for the citizen Bami have been received by the Arab side.
Bami, one of the leaders of the seven gangs investigated in the voluminous dossier made possible thanks to communications made on the SKY ECC application, in Dubai about a month ago.
The 45-year-old is accused of organizing and ordering the attempted murder of former Socialist MP Arben Ndoka, after the latter organized an assassination attempt on him in November 2020.
For him, the Special Court has assigned the security measure of “imprisonment”.
“Today, on 12.06.2024, citizen Durim Bami, born on 29.10.1979, was arrested in Dubai for the purpose of extradition to our country, after the Special Court of First Instance Against Corruption and Organized Crime, with decision No. 49, dated 15.05.2024, has set the security measure “Arrest in prison” for this citizen for criminal offenses; “Providing the conditions and material means to commit murder”, “Structured criminal group”, “Cultivation of narcotics”, and “Commitment of criminal offenses by a criminal organization, or a structured criminal group”, provided by articles, 80, 284, 333/a and 334/1 of the Criminal Code.
