The preliminary hearing for former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj, who is accused of the criminal offense of abuse of office for the so-called “Buka” case, is postponed until February 2.
Ahmetaj’s lawyers requested that the trial be considered invalid. “The request for judgment is considered invalid and the acts are returned for investigation by SPAK. SPAK was unclear in its position,” they said.
The Special Prosecutor’s Office says that a plot of land on 5 Maji street was privatized by Arben Ahmetaj, ignoring a court decision, after calculating the shares of the owners of the land at the prices of 1994, causing them significant financial damage. Ahmetaj has continuously contested the charge of absconding.
Ahmetaj has been on the run for months for serious criminal offenses related to the incendiary case.
A few days ago, Ahmetaj lost his deputy’s mandate, as he did not appear in the Assembly for almost 6 months, while his place was taken by Plarent Ndreca.
