Historian Auron Tare was invited in a direct link to Euronews Albania to talk about the merger of the Ministry of Culture.
He said he was not surprised by the government’s decision to merge the ministry into what will now be known as the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation, as it did not have a primary role anyway.
“In general, these years we have had a ministry of culture that posted photos, did some kind of media PR and not necessarily impact on monuments or cultural heritage. I think that slowly, the extinction or dysfunction of this ministry would come to this point. Not that I see any great wonder. It did not surprise me at all that the Ministry of Culture is merging with another ministry, because it did not have a primary role”, said Auron Tare.
Asked about the connection between Economy and Culture, Tare pointed out the Burtitni park, saying that cultural heritage can be used as an economic asset for rural development.
“If you give me some space, I will try to explain my point of view. I personally give different lectures at different universities when they invite me precisely with a concept that Albania was one of the early pioneers, where the national park of Butrint turned into an economic asset for the development of the area”, said Tare.
