Prime Minister Edi Rama says that the scandal of the doctors of the Oncology Service at QSUT has affected him a lot and according to him, that case was an indicator that the system still needs improvement and more intensive commitment.

In Albania, he said in this Saturday’s “Podkast”, the hospitals insult those who have not been in the last few years and have not seen the transformation, while foreigners who come to Albania remain surprised.

“What happened at Oncology was very moving. It was an indication that we still need to improve the system and the way of engagement. It is known, a famous veteran of the BBC has said, news is not when the dog bites the man, but the man bites the dog. In in this particular case, the news is not that this doctor performs 90,000 interventions per year, but when a case like that, or that of the sanatorium, comes up, these are cases that undermine trust in the system.

Hospitals in Albania curse those who have not seen them in recent years, they have memories of the past. I have also heard foreigners who have come here say that they cannot believe that Albania has a hospital like the one for internal diseases.

An account is not required why a pig appears, but an account must be brought to the problem. How you react to this, that’s where the difference is made, do you justify it or look it in the eye and say sorry, this was a bad moment and let’s make it better”, said Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania.

The scandal with the Oncology hospital came out a few weeks ago in the media, where the doctors found that cancer patients did not receive services at the state hospital but were directed to go to the private clinics of these doctors, paying staggering amounts. Even the medicines, it turned out, were halved by the staff.

Involved in this scandal are doctor Edmond Gashi, Emiljano Leka, coordinator at the Oncology Hospital at QSUNT, Alketa Ymeri (Pere), doctor, Brikena Qirjazi, Halil Gashi, Florian Marku, and Drilona Kishta. These citizens are currently being investigated by SPAK.
