Enkelejda Danaj (Limaj) was escorted today (May 18) to her last residence in the city of Vlora by her children, family members and relatives, two days after she was stabbed to death by her husband, Eduart Danaj, in Menidi, Greece.
Relatives of the victim have stated that the couple had problems in Greece, but the 40-year-old woman sacrificed her life for her two children.
“They lived abroad, their problems were removed by their family, their father and mother. They had problems, as they say, but he sacrificed for the sake of the children, he even gave his life”, said one of them.
“Situation worse than this has nowhere to go. They have been living abroad for years, we have a friend, a colleague, I know that at the time he was connected to him. He made documents, took him there. This happened,” said another.
The 50-year-old hit the victim over 10 times in the early hours of Thursday (May 16) on a main road in Menidi.
Eduart Danaj, as he admitted to the police, knew the 40-year-old’s route and is seen walking near her apartment, going from left to right, then turning back again.
At that moment, he appears in front of his wife Enkelejda Danaj and when she sees him, she stops on the street.
The 50-year-old approached her and started stabbing her repeatedly more than 10 times. In the end he left the knife stuck in her dead body and left the scene.
Eduart Danaj went to a hotel and tried to hide in a building where he reportedly worked. He also had cans of beer with him and consumed a large amount of alcohol, something he did even when he lived with the victim.
He would drink and then beat her. Eduart Danaj was found by Greek officers during a patrol and handcuffed.
