Not only in Albania and Albanian lands, but in many countries around the world, the 112th anniversary of Albania’s independence was celebrated.
In the evening, dozens of Albanians also gathered in Syntagma Square in Greece. Albanian youth, all with red and black flags, continued the celebration in the Greek capital. Many Greeks present were surprised by the enthusiasm of the Albanians, but at no point were there any tensions.
However, some media in Greece have reported this as a provocation on the part of the Albanians. “They went to the main square of Athens with Albanian flags, and even went so far as to sing in support of the KLA,” writes one of the Greek media.
The Greeks seem to have become more tense because the Christmas tree lights were also being turned on nearby and the Albanians seem to have “stole” the celebration.
