Former president Bamir Topi has spoken about the possibility of his return to active political life.
Invited to the show ‘Kjo Javë’ on Neës24, he said that currently an internal conviction for the need to engage in politics does not exist, but there have been requests for his involvement.
“I do politics, here we discuss politics, but I still don’t have an inner conviction about the need to engage very actively in political parties, I still see them as having big problems. I do not deny it as a possibility, because I do not give absolutist answers, yes or no, but today I have no conviction, but when I have conviction, I express it.
They require it on several levels, of course they require commitment. The commitment cannot be merely mechanical, but must be a deep inner conviction, if your participation really contributes, or you will be a person who gets into those dark labyrinths and obstacles that have been added recently”, said Topi.
Asked about Lulzim Basha’s role in the opposition, Topi told him that his public engagements have increased and that the only option for him is engagement. But he added that it is a difficult journey for the conjunctures that have been created.
As for Sali Berisha, he said that there was an extraordinary vitality of Berisha during the period when he was declared non grata.
“I have the impression that yes. It’s starting to come out. To appear in the media means to be visible in public. According to my point of view, the fact that he is engaged in this direction, shows that he is engaged in his political mission. It is a difficult journey for the conjunctures that have been created, but it is much better to be a protagonist of political life than to be passive.
There is visible progress in this direction. The great political and organizational experience of Berisha, of the people who are politically and structurally connected with them. They had organized structures of the Democratic Party. Why not an extraordinary vitality of Berisha during the period when he was declared non grata to maintain contact with the citizens. Albania is a small country. Being visible creates confidence that you haven’t abandoned them. The opposite happened with Mr. Basha and now he is trying to recover it”, said the former president.
