The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has been in detention in the city of Durrës since February 12, after being accused of corruption and money laundering.
Although in prison, the mayor has not “left behind” his citizens of Tirana. Sometimes with accusations against the special prosecutor, Olsi Dado, and sometimes becoming “nostalgic” for his deeds and work in Tirana, Veliaj is quite active on social networks.
This fact has been widely commented on and for this reason “Lolita” recently asked the Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja.
Through a “spec” question, she addressed Manja with the allusions that are circulating up and down that the mayor’s phone was put in his cell and why they did not do the same with the president of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, who is also in prison.
Question: There is talk that prisons are equipped with telephones, have you equipped Erion Veliaj with a telephone because he posts every day on Facebook and why don’t you equip Ilir Meta so that he can agree with Monika, because he has a soul, even the poor one?
Manja: Prisons have special legal rules. The law itself has provided for a series of means of communication that residents in these institutions have with their families. There are telephones, telephones installed in our institutions where every convict has the right to communicate with his family within the limit. There are also meetings with family members. So there is a great opportunity for communication and if someone wants to be present in someone’s life, we have created the opportunity for them, including Ilir Meta.
