The head of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi and former minister Ylli Manjani have been involved in debates in the studio of the show “Now with Erla Mëhillin” on Euronews Albania, regarding the work of SPAK.
Manjani asked Bardhi to give his opinion regarding the work of SPAK and he said that he knows it as an institution and appreciates its work.
Then Manjani asked him if SPAK has done well by placing former Prime Minister Sali Berisha under “house arrest” and Bardhi replied that the issue should not be seen so black and white and judge all of SPAK’s work only for one decision.
Excerpts from the studio discussion:
Bardhi: I agree, let’s discuss this on the performance and the need to reform the criminal procedure code and the criminal code. Anything that is of interest to the citizens, I have no complex to reform. We knew each other and do I respect SPAK or not, that’s how I understood the question, then is there a need to reform the criminal procedure code, the criminal code, or the relevant legislation in this regard, definitely. For me, it is a great absurdity that the ratio of those who are currently in prison is reversed. There are more detainees than convicts. Whenever I criticize the work of justice institutions, I will maintain my position.
Manjani: I mean, he did Berisha good by keeping him at home. Did he do well or not to imprison the leader of the opposition?
Bardhi: The issue is not black and white, I have maintained my position on this matter. As a politician, I know the institutions, I respect the institutions, I turn to the institutions whenever I have something.
