About 120 million euros will be used to transform public transport in Tirana.
“50 million euro loan, 1 million grant from the European Union, the rest will be financed by the Municipality of Tirana”.

Citizens are returning to public transport after the drastic drop in the number of those who used buses during the pandemic. Last year alone, about 70 million trips were made in Tirana. In the three lines that cross the heart of the capital, Kombinat-Kinostudio, new Tirana and Unaza, the buses will be electric and the lanes will be dedicated to them.
According to the Director of Transport in the municipality, this system has been selected to cope with the increase in the flow of passengers.

The goals are twofold.

“Reduction of almost 50% of citizens’ time from point a to b, in some cases and the increase in the volume of travelers who will leave their cars to use public transport”.
The works will start this year and will be assisted by German and English experts.
“The project is formalized and work begins this year, in 2027-2028 is the completion target. The entire fleet of buses in the three main corridors is a fleet of electric buses, but to put an electric bus in service will also require all the supporting infrastructure, such as depots, charging points, determining the power, determining the autonomy of the bus that it don’t disconnect from service to face the day. The digitization of the entire citizen information system, such as through stations or relevant applications, where the citizen receives information in real time when the bus arrives”.

The return of the three lines to main corridors will be accompanied by the organization of transport in general.

This will increase the speed of the buses and shorten the arrival time for the citizens.
