The former foreign minister Ditmir Bushati was this Tuesday on “Now with Erla Mëhillin” in Euronews Albania where he said that the government should always be the main fighter against corruption and against organized crime.

Asked about the anti-corruption commission led by Fatmir Xhafaj, former minister Bushati said that such commissions are valid, but this does not belong to bipartisan commissions, but to the executive.

“I think that parliamentary committees, especially bipartisan ones, are valuable and can only do good to the political climate in the country. Especially when these commissions take a certain amount of time and try to examine issues related to constitutional reform.

There is a debate among some professionals, among which it is thought that the constitution may require a more comprehensive revision. For this, a more peaceful political environment is needed.

A new institutional framework may also be needed in the country. These naturally require bipartisan commissions. But when we talk about these anti-corruption topics, these are not topics for the parliament but for the executive,” said the former minister.

Asked what is the purpose of setting up such a commission, Bushati said that he cannot know because he is not a proposer.

“I don’t know that I’m not a proponent, but I’ll tell you what the standards and practices are and we don’t need to reinvent the wheel,” said Bushati.
