The Court of Appeal of Tirana decided to uphold the decision of the First Instance against Ervin Salianj and his sentence of 1 year in prison for the “Babalja” case.
We remind you that the democratic deputy was convicted by the First Degree for false reporting in relation to wiretapping in May 2018.
The Court of First Instance decided that the audio-interception was staged and found guilty of the 4 defendants Fredi Alizoti (for whom the Appeal also upheld the decision of the First Instance), Albert Veliu, Jetmir Olldashin and Ervin Salianji.
In the courtroom, Salianji was accompanied by his fellow deputies of the Democratic Party.
After leaving the Court of Appeal, DP deputy Ervin Salianji declared that the decision taken today is completely political.
He accused the Socialist Party, especially the former minister Fatmir Xhafaj, stressing that he sent the decision “with a seal through his lawyer”.
“Political decision, political punishment. First conviction for agitation and propaganda in 32 years. I have not waged a battle for myself, for personal interests, to steal, for drug trafficking, to kill, but a battle against masquerades in this country. This is the first act, in the future you will have other legal proceedings. No father! This is nothing. I am honored and have a shining medal in my political career. We will enter the process thoroughly”, declared the democrat.
