The former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, after the trial for the Gërdeci case, has stated that he has never violated the authority of the Armed Forces.
Mediu emphasized that the former director of the MEICO company, Ylli Pinari, was one of Gërdec’s most important witnesses, while adding that today it is clear “that it has nothing to do with the implication of the minister or the interests of the minister”.
He stated that during the time he held the post of minister, he had no acquaintance with either the Albanian or the American company.
“Pinari was one of the most important witnesses of Gërdec, I requested this in the name of truth and justice.
I was careful, a lot of mud was thrown and a lot of hints were made, but today it clearly seems that it has nothing to do with the implication of the minister or the interests of the minister.
The minister did not know either the Albanian or the American company, he did not have any contact with them, he did not violate the FA’s authority to avoid them from the process”, said the media after leaving GJKKO.
Fatmir Mediu said that as the Minister of Defense, he has not received any disturbing act regarding the process of dismantling and transporting weapons.
“There is a command and control system in the FA, which means that when a command is given or an order is given, they are addressed and implemented in the relevant structures, the latter do the control acts. The only disturbing act that came to me as the Minister of Defense was a military police report that mentioned that buildings were being demolished in Gërdec without permission.
The Minister of Defense has addressed the issues to the military and civil authorities requesting that an order be made for criminal and administrative proceedings against the offenders. There is no other information that has come either from MEICO, or from the FA, or from civil inspection structures,” he added.
