In the “Gallery” column on Top Channel, Erion Braçe remembers when he became a deputy for the first time in ’96, running in the Berat area.
He says he was attacked by some thugs and then covered in blood all over his body. If that wasn’t enough, he was shot with a barrage of bullets at the SP headquarters, but the bullets shot through the photo of Fatos Nano placed above his head.
“I went on May 26, 1996 at the behest of Comrade Gramoz from Berat, where I was in pieces, he could hear the bullets. I was talking to Gramoz on the phone, after I left the Berat police station completely covered in blood, I walked the streets of Berat as I was covered in blood, people were horrified. I arrived at the headquarters of the SP.
Gramozi is looking for you, they told me, I spoke, he asked me how are you? I told him in pieces, the whole Socialist Party is in pieces, I told him. He told me well, go to Poliçan, I told him why I have to move from here, he told me go to Poliçan. At the moment I was consuming this conversation, a group of people entered, a gang, and I had a photo of Fatos Nano above and above my head, Fatos Nano shot 7-8 times. We stood, got up, part of us lay down, part of us sat, etc. and I remembered that it was Gramozi on the phone.
He asked me what happened? I told him they came and shot us here, this is the situation. I went to Poliçan, I went to Tirana the next day, with all the cartridges from that day, the shirt with blood, the collar with blood and so on, that’s how I entered politics and parliament, with this story”, says Braçe.
