Doctor Alketa Ymeri Pere, who is under investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office of Tirana after the Oncology Hospital scandal, has denied that she is involved in the scheme of sending tumor patients to the private hospital “Megis”.
Invited to the show ‘Top Story’, the doctor, to whom the security measure ‘mandatory appearance’ has been assigned, has declared that she is pure ‘amber’ and that she has never in her life referred patients to the private sector.
“A doctor with 30 years of experience who has saved thousands of lives. I went to work in 1997 amid bullets, not even in covid that I stopped working. I have the worst relationship with surgeons because I told them not to take patients to your private hospitals.
I sent a message some time ago to the director where I told her about the problem. I knew they took patients to the private. I don’t know what to say about the punishment. I am amber, never in my life have I told a patient to go to a private doctor to do an analysis”, said Alketa Pere.
Asked by the moderator Grida Duma if she feels like a doctor, Alketa Pere said that when she found out that she had been suspended from her job, she was a moment away from jumping from the balcony.
“I don’t know what to say, I received phone calls from patients, I felt like I was at work or on vacation, when I heard about the suspension, that feeling as a doctor was that why has the number of suicides increased in Albania, When I heard this news, I gave him the right even that lady who jumped from the Buna bridge with her children gave me a small moment to jump from the balcony”, she declared.
Pere also told about her husband’s illness, where she said that she signed the patient’s file at the “Megis” private hospital in charge due to the husband’s health condition.
Alketa Pere: My husband suffers from a chronic disease, in Oncology we have an obligation, I did not sign, I only made a note, let the prosecution prove it, it is absolute, there is no room for clarification. We have a duty to offer mentorship. I shot there, I don’t know the patient at all.
Alma Demiraj: Why did you sign the card with the name of the private hospital “Megis”?
Alketa Pere: I could have been traumatized by my husband
Alma Demiraj: How can you do this?
Alketa Pere: I don’t think there is anything to discuss.
Alma Demiraj: Are you employed by “Megis” or not?
Alketa Pere: No.
As for the doctor Edmond Gashi, who was the owner of the Megis clinic and for whom the Court has assigned the security measure of ‘house arrest’, Pere said that he liked to have a private job.
“Gashi likes to work in a private clinic and Gashi has fallen prey to this issue. The sale of medicines and half the dose, let the patients who have been treated in the most scientific way possible in that hospital stay calm,” declared the doctor.
