The experts of the Institute of Geosciences IGJEO predict that today in the Southeast of the country at heights above 300 m above sea level the precipitation will be in the form of snow.
Tomorrow, on 21.01.2023, it is predicted that the rain will stop, but strong frosts are expected, mainly in the mountainous areas.
The civil emergency structures in each municipality, their and contracted entities’ snow removal teams and vehicles, are on full alert throughout the county for the distribution of salt and snow removal, and will remain in continuous monitoring of every road axis, to ensure that traffic is carried out smoothly.
In the conditions of snow and low temperatures, drivers must show increased caution when traveling to our county and be equipped with winter tires, reduce speed, respect the signs and instructions of the Traffic Police!.
Even during this weekend, despite the weather conditions, our region remains a favorite destination and this is proven by the reservations in the hospitality structures in Korça, Voskopoja, Dardha, Pogradec, Kolonje, etc.
Shkoder
On the axes of Lot 1, H.Hotit-Tamarë, Tamarë-Vermosh and Bogë-Theth, there was snowfall during the night that continues even now, accompanied by strong winds.
Machinery and workers are working to clear the snow and keep the roads open.
Caution should be exercised in traffic as visibility is hampered by wind gusts and windblown snow.
Elbasan
In the District of Elbasan, as a result of the prevailing weather with heavy rains, strong winds, storms and snow in the deep mountainous areas, various problematic situations have been created.
Starting at midnight, due to the atmospheric conditions, serious problems and difficulties have been created in the circulation of vehicles on some segments of the national road from Elbasan to Qafë-Thane.
According to official sources, after 00:10 and onward in some segments, there is a continuous fall of massive earth and stones in “Murrashi Bends, “Dragostunja Bends” and “Qafë Thana Bends”.
The traffic police, employees of the subcontracting firm and civil emergency services have been on standby to deal with the situation and to open in record time every segment of this road when they fall on its massive track of earth and stones.
Kruje
The heavy rains that started last evening have caused that the rivers Ishëm and Zeze, which have their source in the highlands of Kruja and Tirana and which cross the lowlands of the district of Kruja and flow into the sea, have suffered a significant swelling.
The water level has risen significantly, but fortunately they do not pose any problems until now.
The rains continue with moderate intensity and if they continue at this rate in the following hours, the situation may worsen significantly, risking flooding in some villages that are at risk.
In the highlands of Kruja, there are reports of storms and heavy rains which have caused landslides in some places. However, so far the roads are all passable.
