Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated that the draft anti-corruption resolution proposed by the Socialist Party is what Albania needs to support the country’s EU membership in 2030.
The head of the government emphasized that SPAK will have the unconditional support of SP, as long as he is in power.
Rama said that “SPAK is a bitter medicine that you either drink or die”, adding that “who drinks it once, yes and once, not like the rest of you do, no, there is no chance to clean himself up and continue only forward but it only prolongs its agony and dissolves as you are dissolving in the alley of hope”.
As the prime minister mocked them, the opposition MPs hit the tables in the Assembly.
Edi Rama: “It is what Albania and the Albanian citizens need from this parliament to support the country’s membership in the EU in 2030.
This initiative that comes to life with this resolution has nothing to do with comments, they fantasized about bringing SPAK under control, or that we remembered after 10 years to fight corruption, We have been at war with corruption for 10 years. SPAK will have the unconditional support of this majority as long as I am here.
SPAK is a bitter medicine that you either drink or die. And whoever drinks it once yes and once no like the rest of you do, has no chance to cleanse himself and move forward, but only prolongs his agony and dissolves like you are dissolving in the alley of hope.
Therefore, my appeal is to vote today on the draft resolution, if you did not find the strength to do so, do not boycott the commission. How many times have we told you in this room, go back to memory ‘don’t do this, look do that’. It turned out as I told you. Not as you did or didn’t do. And you know why? For a very simple reason. Not that I’m smarter or smarter than you, but you didn’t want to see the seemingly very short path made infinitely long. So we are here and you there. Cheers and keep in mind that you still have a lot to see. What we started 10 years ago will end 5 years later when the Albanian flag will be stuck in the EU yard in Brussels whether you like it or not.
