The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, has reacted for the first time in connection with the arrest of Sali Berisha, who has been under house arrest since December 30.

Basha said that in a personal sense he is very sorry that a man he cooperated with ends up here, but on the other hand he said that the DP and the opposition must move forward leaving the past behind.

The head of the DP encouraged the judiciary to do its job without being politically hindered. He emphasized that all politicians should be available to justice.

“I have two reactions, one is on the personal level, the other on the political level. On a personal level, I’m not happy, I’m sorry that a person I collaborated with, someone who made his own contributions, ended up here. I have said what I had to say. But in the end everyone makes their own choice in life and must take responsibility for the choice they have made.

This is one side of the cost that his behavior brought on everyone. This is a cost to his family, but also a cost to DP and the country.

On the other hand, it is imperative that DP move forward, leave the past behind and move forward. Not to step on the past, nor to deny it, but to move forward and the official answer is that in any case the DP’s position is that justice does its work unhindered and every politician, starting with me, must be in access to justice without any restrictions. That’s why I brought the removal of immunity to the Parliament”, said Basha.
