The Head of the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, Altin Dumani, during the meeting with journalists, also focused on what is happening with the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.
According to what Dumani said, it is learned that the case against the mayor of Tirana is in the preliminary investigation phase and he refused to provide more details.
“The case is in the preliminary investigation phase and I cannot make more information public. You have reported on the inspections, but they are a tool for seeking evidence”, said Dumani.
We recall that a few days ago the Special Prosecution Office requested permission from the GJKKO to inspect an apartment that is allegedly used by Erjon Veliaj’s wife, Ajola Xoxa.
Prosecutors Altin Dumani and Ols Dado requested special permission from the black squad to conduct a search of apartment 11/4 in the “Sky Tower” building in the capital. Judge Atalanta Zeqiraj decided to accept the request, assessing it as legal by the chief prosecutor and her counterpart.
The summary decision also provided for the purpose of “discovering, managing and seizing evidence related to the criminal offense, including documentary and electronic evidence, specifying their types.
Meanwhile, we recall that on the morning of December 6, BKH agents landed at Veliaj’s apartment in Tirana, at the “Harabel” studio of his wife, Ajola Xoxa, as well as at the apartment of the brother of the mayor of Tirana. They seized documents and Xoxa’s phone.
The Special Prosecution Office announced through an official announcement days ago that Erion Veliaj is being investigated for the consumption of 4 criminal offenses, for “Passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials”, “Active corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials”, “Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity”, and “Refusal to declare, failure to declare, concealment or false declaration of assets, private interests of elected officials and public servants, or of any other person who has a legal obligation to declare.”
According to what SPAK announced, this investigation against Erion Veliaj came after a report made by citizen Nesti Angoni, the latter’s name was made public by the mayor himself on Thursday afternoon during the Municipal Council meeting.
