The new Korçë-Ersekë road with a length of 35 kilometers is expected to be inaugurated in June of last year, but while all the deadlines have been violated, the axis has not only not been completed, but in one of its newly built segments, it has suffered massive collapse making it impassable.
The major road damage occurred in the place called Qafa e Qarri.
“The construction site is already at a very advanced stage, the first part of the Second Lot is 99% completed”, the Minister of Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku, declared some time ago.
The secondary road Korçë-Ersekë has turned into a precipice, which is devouring millions of euros from the state budget. The cost was 60 million euros for a category C road, a carriageway with at least one lane of movement in each direction, 35 kilometers long and only 8.5 meters wide.
The works for this axis started in June 2013. The tender for the first lot with a length of 17.6 kilometers was won by the company A.N.K. with an offer of about 17 million euros.
After several years of procrastination, the company could not complete the works, and in 2017, another tender of 4 million euros was opened for additional works, which was won by A.N.K.
Even the 2020 tender for the first part of lot 2 was won by A.N.K, a company owned by Agim Kola, the brother of former socialist MP Ndue Kola.
This time, 20 million euros were spent only for 4 kilometers of road with a maximum width of 8.5 meters.
