Altin Dumani has stated that the Special Prosecutor’s Office has given tangible results, prosecuting characters who until yesterday were not even imagined to be affected.
At the Regional Forum for Good Governance Policies, Dumani said that SPAK’s focus is high state figures, mentioning former prime ministers, ministers, deputies or judges.
Dumani said that “we managed to seize and confiscate significant values that can reach up to 150 million euros”.
“If you look at the list of subjects that we have managed to bring charges or are under investigation, it shows that we are looking at high-level officials, in the rank of former prime minister, former deputy prime minister, ministers, deputies, judges, police officers, mayors municipality, former mayors. These should be seen as an indication as a sign that SPAK is being measured and is able to have a guilty verdict. As far as organized crime is concerned, we have had tangible results, prosecuting characters who until yesterday were not even thought to be affected”, said Altin Dumani.
Altin Dumani: To be successful in the fight against corruption, I believe that it is necessary to have some tools or instruments in our hands. Most of the countries of the Western Balkans have realized this and all are following the same trend by creating special anti-corruption structures, special prosecutors against organized crime.
This is the first thing that must be undertaken in order to be successful in the fight against corruption and organized crime. A good legislation is also necessary, and in Albania, yes, we have good legislation. We also have constitutional and legal guarantees for this special structure to exercise its functions independently.
Another important factor is having a suitable infrastructure. Investment in technology. Crime has evolved, the forms of their manifestation are very sophisticated, and the burden falls on us to adapt. This forces us to invest in technology. We as SPAK have invested in this direction.
