MEP Fredi Beleri appeared in the Tirana Court this Tuesday, where he filed a defamation complaint against the former director of the Archives, Ardit Bido.
The hearing is currently in the preparatory phase, while Beleri’s lawyer stated that the MEP decided to attend in person, since he was in Tirana.
At the reconciliation hearing, Beleri did not withdraw his denunciation and the case was set to go to trial. On the other hand, Ardit Bido has accepted the possibility of reconciliation, but has refused to withdraw his public statements, which Beleri considers to be defamation.
In his lawsuit, Beleri claimed that Bido had defamed him by including his name in the Peshkëpi massacre and linking him to Greek ultra-nationalist groups. Outside the court, Bido stated several months ago that his statements were supported by facts asserted by Greek scholars.
