The census in the agricultural sector will play a decisive role in updating the statistical information needed at the local and regional level and the changes that have occurred in this sector in more than a decade.
INSTAT has prepared a module of questions, which are also included in the questionnaire of the Census of Population and Housing developed in October 2023, in order to create a list of agricultural farms, which will serve as a basis for selection for the next census of agriculture, this is due to the lack of an administrative register of farms.
The Agricultural Census will provide information on specific modules, on all agricultural farms, related to: irrigation, land management practices, machinery and equipment and horticulture, which derive from the implementation of the European Commission regulations on Structural Surveys of Farms, with reference year 2023, for EU member countries.
Agriculture is one of the most important sectors of the country, which has a contribution to 20% of the gross domestic product, and in recent years it is aimed to establish large farms, which are combined with the pooling of lands in the form of cooperatives or direct investments in processing plant.
