The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, emphasized in an interview with the Italian media that the reception center for immigrants in Gjadër will function.
The head of the Italian government spoke about the dispute with the judiciary that has been opened.
“I don’t make commitments that I don’t think I can keep. But don’t worry because there is a solution. I’m working on it,” she said.
For Meloni, the project with Albania should work because it is innovative and has received the attention of all member countries of the European Union.
“In my opinion, the project with Albania should work and I will do everything to make it work. I believe that it is an absolutely innovative project and it is no coincidence that it has received the attention of almost all EU member states. It is a total change in the management of immigration flows. There are solutions that make the project work. We will wait for the Supreme Court, we also have the European Court of Justice and we will see how much support there will be for Italy’s position before the European Court when the decision comes,” she said.
Meloni emphasized that he is working to find other solutions for the project and promises that it will work.
“I had in mind that I had to work three times harder than my predecessors to achieve results. I am prepared, I knew, especially for immigration, which would have widespread opposition. I knew that I would encounter many obstacles, which we are seeing. I knew that there would be many areas and environments that would not agree with these initiatives. I think that we should not stop before the obstacles we are encountering and that is why I continue to search and I will find a solution, the project in Albania will work”, she said for the show Quarta Repubblica.
At the end of November, the emigrants, and most of the Italian police, social workers and the governing body of the centers in Albania for the repatriation of emigrants left Gjadri. The decision came after the consecutive blocking of the Court of Rome for keeping immigrants in the center of Gjadri. The most recent decision was that of October, which forced the return to Italy of 12 immigrants.
The verdict of the Court of Rome against the implementation of the agreement reached between Albania and Italy has been appealed by the Meloni Government to the Court of Cassation and the decision is expected on December 4.
Meanwhile, Italy is still waiting for the decision of the European Court of Justice, after the appeal made by the Italian courts against the Meloni decree on the definition of safe places for immigrants./tvklan
