The court of Shkodra has sentenced to 22 years in prison the citizen with the initials O.G., who is accused of drowning her 6-day-old baby on January 5, 2023 by throwing it into the Kir river.
The court hearing was held on Monday, February 12, when the jury found him guilty of the criminal offense of murdering a minor. Before the court announced the decision, she showed remorse for the crime she had committed and asked for mercy for the sentence against her.
The serious event happened a year ago, where the 33-year-old woman gave birth to her son on December 30, 2022. She was unmarried and had asked the hospital to give the child up for adoption, but then changed her mind. The young woman was released from the hospital on January 4, and the day after, in difficult psychological conditions, she committed the grave act by throwing her baby into the waters of the Kir River in Postriba. Then citizen O.G., confessed her crime to the nuns of the village, and the baby was found dead on January 5.
O. G. herself was abandoned by her parents at the age of 1 and grew up without a family, but by her relatives. The clarification of the court’s decision is awaited to find out if the woman had mental health problems at the time she undertook the killing of her baby.
Also, no court session has been announced regarding the review of the charges, much less the conclusions of the defense have been given, if of course it was defended even with a lawyer mainly. At the time of the arrest, the police claimed that the woman had mental health problems, but it seems that the Shkodra court has convicted the woman for the murder of the minor, who came out of the hospital and kidnapped the baby, throwing it into the Kir river.
