Italian Senator and former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi arrived at noon today at the Gjadri camp in Lezha. Renzi is visiting the migrant reception center.
The former Italian Prime Minister has stated to the media that this is not simply a center for migrants, and even says that it should have been built in Italy. He has accused Meloni, saying that the Gjadri camps are nothing more than propaganda by the Prime Minister. This is because, according to him, it has not reduced the number of migrants.
Renzi has stated that the Gjadri camp should be turned into a prison for Albanians who are serving sentences in Italy. Renzi has emphasized that this could allow them to be closer to their families.
“Through an agreement with the Albanian state, the centers of Gjadri and Shëngjin will be turned into prisons for Albanians serving sentences in Italy
We are here to give a clear message. We have also articulated this idea in the Italian Parliament. I look at the budget issues, here the Italian state lost almost 1 billion euros from the Italian budget.
With so much money in Italy we could build hundreds of such centers. Apart from the Meloni-Rama friendship, what is the reason that these centers were built?”, said the former Italian Prime Minister.
We recall that his visit comes after the decision of the Italian court, which gave the Italian government the right to the agreement with Albania on immigrants.
The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, has herself committed to the implementation of this agreement, and she has expressed her determination to achieve this objective, which according to her has been welcomed by all European Union countries.
