Six cases diagnosed with measles in Durrës are confirmed by the local health structures in Durrës.

It is about people with close family ties and mainly of young age groups.

“Most affected patients are children. What is confirmed is the close family connection between all patients. What is very worrying is that they are all unvaccinated. Currently, they are in a stable medical condition at home, where they are isolated to avoid constant contact with other people”, the director of the Local Health Care Unit, Aurora Hyka, told “News 24”.

In these cases, a close cooperation of all health structures, but also the family members of sick patients, is needed to discover the entire chain of contacts they have had. According to director Hyka, the entire epidemiological investigation has been completed.
“We expected an even more complete cooperation with the family members, but with the insistence of all the health structures, we managed to get all the information, follow them up, send the blood samples and nasopharyngeal swabs to the PIH to make a full assessment and diagnosis of the situation.”

All 6 cases affected by measles in Durrës have left the hospital.

The 11 cases affected by measles in Durrës and Tirana were confirmed the day before by the Institute of Public Health.

The cases of this virus in our country are confirmed after the alarm given by the World Health Organization, that measles cases are increasing throughout Europe. WHO calls on countries to urgently carry out vaccination campaigns. The same appeal is made by the health authorities in Durrës.

“We need cooperation and respect for the application of vaccines, which are absolutely mandatory and necessary for all of us”, says Hyka.

Measles is a viral infection of the respiratory system and one of the most contagious diseases in the world. It is spread by coughing and sneezing, as well as close or direct contact. The virus causes high fever, fever, runny nose, cough, red and watery eyes, and small white spots on the mucous membrane lining the oral cavity.
