Whenever the Soros Foundation comes up in political debate in Albania, the question that accompanies this debate is who brought philanthropist George Soros to Albania.

The Democratic Party candidate for MP, Myslym Murrizi, has today published a document dated January 10, 1992, a few weeks before the March 22 elections of that year that brought the Democratic Party to power.

The decision signed by the caretaker prime minister at the time, Vilson Ahmeti, determines how the Soros Foundation will begin its activity in Albania.

“The Council of Ministers decided: for the activity of the Soros Foundation under the name ‘Association of Open Funds for Albania’, by January 25, 1992, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports shall provide an office, and the Directorate of Government Services shall provide a residential apartment, which shall be rented for one year and paid in lek by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, while the office shall be provided for use rent-free by this ministry,” the decision signed by Vilson Ahmeti states.
