Gazment Bardhi has reacted to the news that the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, will also be present at today’s parliamentary session.
Through a reaction, Bardhi called on the Head of State not to allow it to be misused by the majority as a facade for a false normality in the Albanian Parliament.
He says that the President is welcome, but in this case he emphasizes that they do not want to believe that it is a provocation, because the opposition has been in a battle with Edi Rama for several months.
“In our assessment, the President of the Republic should contribute to the normal functioning of the Parliament, by undertaking acts that do not undermine parliamentarization and allow the opposition to fulfill its constitutional role in a democratic society, where we distinguish the right to parliamentary control”, says the reaction of Gazment Bardhit.
Gazment Bardhi’s reaction:
As for the opposition, the President of the Republic Bajram Begaj has always been welcomed in the Assembly of Albania, as the Head of State and representative of the unity of the people. President Begaj was not present at any start of the parliamentary session.
From the discussions that have flowed in the media from the meeting of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party, we are aware of the fact that President Begaj will be present today in the plenary session to deliver a welcoming speech. Although the news has been confirmed by the media, I want to clarify that this was not officially announced to us by either the Assembly or the Presidency.
To avoid any misunderstanding, and not wanting to believe that the President of the Republic is involved in a scenario of provoking the opposition, I want to confirm that the DP Parliamentary Group and the opposition in Parliament are in a battle with the majority to win constitutional rights of the opposition that have been denied for months by Edi Rama. This battle will continue in today’s session until our constitutional demands are met.
In our assessment, the President of the Republic should contribute to the normal functioning of the Parliament, by undertaking acts that do not undermine parliamentarization and allow the opposition to fulfill its constitutional role in a democratic society, where we distinguish the right to parliamentary control.
President Begaj has all the constitutional possibilities to guarantee the respect of the Constitution and we find the opportunity to call on him not to be misused by the majority as a facade for a false normality in the Parliament of Albania. The opposition is determined not to allow the normal functioning of the Parliament, until its constitutional rights are enabled.
